Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our bags, drops, commissions, and how the Atelier works.

About the Atelier
What is WholEmollient Atelier?

WholEmollient Atelier is a small handmade bag and textile studio based in Naples, Florida. Every piece — from handbags to hand-tufted rugs — is made by hand in limited quantities using materials chosen for quality and character, not trends.

We do not operate a factory or production line. Each piece reflects the time and care it took to make.

Where are your products made?

Everything is made in Naples, Florida. Handstitched bags, hand-tufted rugs — all made in our workshop by us, one piece at a time.

Why do pieces vary slightly from the photos?

Because they are handmade. Fabric placement, cord tension, and small construction details will differ slightly from piece to piece. This is not a defect — it is evidence that a person made your bag, not a machine. Each piece is inspected before it ships.

Drops & Availability
What is a limited drop?

A drop is a small batch release of a specific colorway or design. Each colorway is produced in limited quantity — when it sells out, that colorway is permanently retired. We do not restock or reissue closed colorways.

How do I know when a new drop is available?

Follow us on Instagram at @wholemollient.atelier — new drops are announced there first. You can also join the waitlist on any collection page to be notified by email.

Can I be notified when a sold-out item comes back?

Sold-out colorways are retired permanently and will not return. However, new colorways in the same collection are released periodically. Use the waitlist form on the collection page to be notified when the next drop opens.

Why do you only make a small number of each piece?

Because each piece is stitched by hand, one at a time. There is no shortcut to that process. Limiting production is not a marketing strategy — it is simply the reality of how these bags are made.

Color Commissions
What is a Cael Color Commission?

A color commission allows you to request the Cael bag in a custom color palette. You choose the cord colors, accent stripe (optional), and hardware finish. The structure, shape, and design of the bag remain fixed — only the color changes.

Commissions start at $900. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to begin. Lead time is 3–5 weeks from deposit.

What hardware finishes are available?

Hardware is available in gold, silver, bronze, or black. Your selection is confirmed during the commission intake process.

Can I change the shape or structure of the bag?

No. The Cael's silhouette, flap shape, clasp placement, chain style, and interior construction are fixed across all colorways and commissions. The design is the signature — color is the only variable.

How many commission slots are available?

We accept a limited number of commissions each month. If you have a time-sensitive event, reach out as early as possible to confirm availability.

Do you do event or wedding party orders?

Yes. We accept coordinated event orders — matched sets for wedding parties, galas, and group celebrations. All bags in the set are built to a shared color palette. A minimum order applies and pricing is by inquiry. Contact us with your event date, piece count, and color direction.

Orders & Shipping
How long does shipping take?

In-stock items ship within 3–5 business days. Commission pieces ship when production is complete — typically 3–5 weeks from deposit confirmation. You will receive tracking information when your order ships.

Do you ship internationally?

Please contact us for international shipping inquiries. Availability and rates vary by destination.

What is your return policy?

In-stock items may be returned within 14 days of delivery in original unused condition and original packaging. Contact us before sending anything back to receive return approval. Once received and inspected, refunds are processed within 5–7 business days to your original payment method. Return shipping is the responsibility of the customer. Commissions, event orders, and custom rug orders are final sale and not eligible for return. If your item arrives damaged, please contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos and we will address it directly.

Can I cancel or change my order?

In-stock orders can be cancelled or changed if you contact us before the item has shipped. Once an order has shipped, it cannot be cancelled or modified. Commission deposits are non-refundable at any stage. If you need to make a change, please contact us as soon as possible at wholemollientatelier.com/pages/contact-wholemollient-atelier.

Care & Quality
How do I care for my bag?

Spot clean exterior only using a soft damp cloth. Do not submerge in water or machine wash. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight. Store in a dust bag when not in use. Keep hardware dry — pat dry immediately if exposed to moisture.

How do I care for my hand-tufted rug?

Vacuum regularly on a low setting. Spot clean with a mild detergent and damp cloth — do not saturate. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. Rotate periodically for even wear. Use a rug pad underneath to prevent slipping and protect the backing.

Are small variations normal?

Yes, and they are expected. Cord tension, weave density, fabric placement, and minor dimensional differences are inherent to the handmade process. No two pieces are identical. This is a feature of handcraft, not a flaw.
